Administrator
Thank you for your interest in Highland Avenue Christian School. Now in our 28th year of service to the Aransas Pass area, I believe that this ministry is reaching and touching the lives and homes of literally hundreds in the Coastal Bend. This institution is a ministry of Word of God Church whose mandate has been "...make ready a people prepared for the Lord." Luke 1:17b HACS is just one facet of that call.
We appreciate you taking the time to investigate this school and its surrounding ministries. This information has been prepared to give you a brief overview of the school and what it has to offer. More detailed information is generally discussed in the student/parent interview. However, if there are questions that you have beyond the scope of this information, please feel free to contact us. Once again, thank you for your interest in our school.

Philosophy
HACS desires to train children in a well balanced, high quality education, based on a strong Biblical foundation. We believe that the only true education is Christian education. Our focus is to train and inspire students to live for Jesus in a secular society. Therefore, we strive to prepare our students for life by integrating Biblical principles with academics. We believe that a child is best trained when there is unity of vision between the parents and school.

Academics
The standards and expectations at HACS are high. Teachers are well trained, diligent, competent, Spirit-filled Christians. HACS uses the ACE School of Tomorrow curriculum for all grade levels. Prayer, devotions and Scripture memorization are an integral part of our educational process. Chapel services are conducted weekly and open to family members of the students.
Students at HACS are tested in the spring of each year using a Nationally recognized achievement test. The typical test scores for HACS students are higher than those of the national average.

Extra-Curricular
Highland Avenue Christian School offers a variety of school sponsored activities for those students in 6th grade and above. Currently, middle and high school students may participate in both boys and girls basketball. Boys and girls tennis and golf are available at the high school level. All activities are based on interest and available funds and are determined on a year to year basis. Check with the main office for a list of current activities.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Based on 1 Timothy 4:8, HACS seeks to use physical training and competition to teach each athlete the discipline needed to build excellence in character, education and leadership.
OVERVIEW
An extra-curricular program in a Christian school exists to guide the young people involved to a better understanding of their relationship with Jesus Christ. During the process of extra-curricular competition, many circumstances arise that offer the opportunities for God's principles to be applied in the lives of students. Dedicated coaches and teachers help young people seize these opportunities and relate the victories and defeats, as well as hard work and teamwork, to their daily walk with the Lord.
Today's society places great emphasis on sports and athletics. The world has made heroes of professional athletes and holds them in high esteem. Jesus said to Christians, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). The world needs light today. If Christians don't exhibit righteousness, obedience to authority, self-control and other godly characteristics, the world will remain in darkness. I John 2:15-16 states, "Do not love the world or the things of the world.. for all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world." The Christian school should take every opportunity to teach the principles of Christ and to prepare young people, our young people, for positions of leadership.
Our emphasis, therefore, should be to encourage our students to be the light of the world; to encourage them not to be "conformed to this world," and to help them "be transformed by the renewing of [their] minds" (Romans 12:2). The goal of the world is to win at any cost. The goal of the Christian should be to serve at any cost, and in whatever he does or wherever he serves to "do it heartily as unto the Lord, and not to men" (Colossians 3:23-24). Therefore, it is not the winning, but the serving and doing so in the context of excellence that is the goal of the extra-curricular program of HACS.
Highland Ave Christian School is a member of TAPPS.
